ROBO-CALLS
We have all been bothered during the primary election campaign by negative and annoying “robo-calls.” These computer-generated calls are almost always negative and do nothing but attack one candidate or another. Worst of all, they are anonymous – we can only guess who originated the attacks and who paid for them.
We cannot outlaw robo-calls. They are protected by the first amendment of the constitution as free speech – no matter how nasty and despicable the content. But we can take steps to identify the source and funding for the calls. When I’m elected, I will propose legislation to make anonymous robo-calls illegal. Those who pay for and sponsor these ads should be required to identify themselves at the beginning of each and every call.
By election day, I will have knocked on 10,000 doors in the 24th District to talk to voters face to face. I want to know what my constituents think, and I want the people I represent to understand my values and my positions.
I will not hide behind anonymous robo-calls. My campaign will not hide behind anonymous robo-calls. No one on my behalf will hide behind anonymous robo-calls. You deserve better from your representative.
